‘Grand Theft Auto V’ goes back to Cali in debut trailer (BLOG, VIDEO)

Image
GTA loves L.A. The first official trailer for Grand Theft Auto V is here, and the rumor mill got it right: we're headed back to Los Angeles -- or GTA's twisted version of it, at least. So it's clearly set in a modern-day Los Angeles…or should we say, Los Santos. That was the name Rockstar Games gave the L.A.-themed city featured in the best-selling Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and it's pretty obvious we'll be treading on the same ground here. A few famous L.A. locations are referenced, including the Santa Monica Pier (re-dubbed the "Pleasure Pier"), Venice Beach, and of course the Hollywood 'Vinewood' sign. Clocking in at just a minute and half, the trailer introduces us to, well, a guy. A guy who moved to Los Santos for a better, sunnier life. A guy who then somehow winds up getting into insane car chases and gun fights, we'd reckon, as his life spins wildly out of control purely for our digital amusement. Though the trailer is pre...

Dont Mod Your XBOX!: XBOX Modder Could Spend 3 Years in Prison (BLOG)

Image
Things aren't looking good for a university student accused of modifying video game consoles. Opening statements were scheduled to begin Wednesday in the federal criminal trial of 28-year-old Matthew Crippen, a student at California State University Fullerton. Homeland Security authorities arrested Crippen last year on accusations that he violated the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). He is accused of modifying Xbox 360 game consoles for money so the machines could play pirated games and other content. This is the first time a federal prosecution for console-modding has reached a jury trial. A conviction could land Crippen in prison for up to three years. A six-woman, six-man jury was selected Tuesday to decide the case.  According to Wired , only a few of those panelists said they owned an Xbox or played video games. The prosecution is expected to bring in witnesses including a Microsoft security expert and the undercover agents Crippen allegedly modded consoles for. ...

WELL DAMN!: GAMER PAID $15,000 TO PLAY ON A 820-FT SCREEN!! (VIDEO)

This is the life right here! Paid to play video games?!? One gamer wasn't satisfied with a 60-inch plasma at home so he took to the next best thing: an 820-feet long display. What game did he want to play? Apparently some World of Warcraft knock-off called Magic World Online 2. Watch the vid: It's reported that the man of the hour paid up to $15,000 to earn the privilege of slashing his foes on the ginormous display. The LED display in question is located in Beijing, China and is usually used to display a virtual aquarium filled with virtual sharks and fishies, video feeds from live events and allow visitors to share photos by uploading them. Must be nice. Wouldn't you love to get paid to play?

Kobe Wrong For Call of Duty Commercial? {VIDEO, BLOG}

Image
Seems like Kobe Bryant can't "Buy a Bucket" Story Taken From:  BUSINESS INSIDER In the TV advertisement for the newest Call of Duty   video   game, Kobe Bryant totes an assault rifle as part of the game's "There's a soldier in all of us" marketing campaign. It's a clever advertisement ( see below) that depicts celebrities and everyday people  navigating  a battle ground with comically potent weapons. But the media –  sports  and  tech  alike – have taken the fun out of the commercial. Pundits bash Activision for marginalizing actual American troops, disparage the company for bringing violent weaponry too close to reality, and derail Kobe Bryant for sending the wrong message to his adoring fans. Lighten up. The campaign's sole intent is to emphasize Call of Duty's wide appeal. And if the humor behind the advertisement isn't immediately clear, wait for the last scene when a fast-food chef makes like Rambo and single-handedly takes down...

MICROSOFT GETS MONEY WITH XBOX KINECT! $1MIL. TO BE EXACT!!!

Image
Microsoft Corp said on Monday it has sold more than 1 million of its new hands-free Kinect gaming systems in the first 10 days since launch, putting it on track to beat its target of 5 million sales by the end of the year. The world's largest software company is hoping the Kinect will help revitalize sales of its Xbox game console this holiday shopping season and counter competing motion-based gaming systems from Nintendo Co, which makes the Wii, and Sony Corp, which introduced its Move product two months ago. "It's a strong start," said Don Mattrick, head of Microsoft's game unit, in a telephone interview on Monday. "Consumers are loving it." The Kinect, a sensing device you plug into the Xbox which allows you to play games just by moving your body and speaking commands, is priced at $150 for a standalone unit and $300 bundled with a 4 gigabyte Xbox console. What recession?!? Get Money Microsoft.
